Plot

*Nemurubaka* tells the story of the daily lives of the residents of a girls' dormitory at a university – the younger Yumi Irusu and the older Ruka Kujirai. Yumi is played by Shiori Kubo (Nogizaka46), while Ruka is portrayed by Yūna Taira. The film is directed by Yūgo Sakamoto, previously responsible for the *Baby Assassins* series.

Nogizaka46 member Shiori Kubo (left in the image above) plays Yumi Irusu, while Yūna Taira (known from the live-action *ReLIFE* and *Honey*, right) appears as Ruka Kujirai.

Kōhei Higuchi (known from Avataro Sentai Donbrothers, left in the image below) and Keito Tsuna (known from Kishiryū Sentai Ryusoulger, right) play Itō and Taguchi, respectively. Taguchi attends the same college as Yumi Irusu and has a crush on the older Ruka Kujirai, while Itō is Taguchi's friend.

Story in Focus

*Nemurubaka* tells the story of the daily lives of the residents of a girls' dormitory at a university – the younger Yumi Irusu and the older Ruka Kujirai. Yumi is played by Shiori Kubo (Nogizaka46), while Ruka is portrayed by Yūna Taira. The film is directed by Yūgo Sakamoto, previously responsible for the *Baby Assassins* series.

The trailer opens with a scene in which Ruka, grudgingly awakened by Yumi, mutters "Uzaa." While Ruka passionately dedicates herself to her role as the guitar vocalist in her band, Irusu expresses her uncertainty about what she wants to achieve in life. The film also shows scenes with Nakasaki, portrayed by Usagi – Irusu's supervisor at the bookstore – as well as scenes in which Taguchi (played by Keito Tsuna) is clingy towards Yumi, and even a scene in which Ruka delivers a dropkick. All of these scenes offer a glimpse into the multitude of quirky and endearing characters.

The film also features the theme song "Nemurubaka" sung by Ruka, which was revealed in the trailer. The lyrics, written by Ishiguro himself and based on the lyrics used in the original manga, were reworked for the film. The composition was handled by Asahi from the band Necry Talkie.

The song was composed by Asahi, who has long been a huge fan of the original work. He is responsible for guitar, lyrics, and composition for the band Nekry Talkie.

Yōhei Gima, guitarist of the rock band Dadadadys, as Jaguar Mori, a member of Ruka's band Peat Moss

Dai Hasegawa as Iwatetsu, a member of Ruka's band Peat Moss.

Takao Yuki as Dan, a member of Ruka's band Peat Moss.

Additionally, pre-sale tickets will be available via MUBICHKE from January 31st (Japan only). The pre-sale tickets come with a bonus: a sticker featuring a specially drawn illustration of the characters Irusu and Ruka, created by Ishiguro for the film adaptation.

Manga Work

The manga revolves around the daily lives of college dormitory roommates Yumi Irusu and Ruka Kujirai. Ruka, the older of the two, is always broke despite being an active band member, while Irusu works part-time at a secondhand bookstore.

Ishiguro launched the manga in Tokuma Shoten's Monthly Comic Ryū magazine in September 2006 and ended it in January 2008. Tokuma Shoten published a collected volume of the manga.

Both Ishiguro's manga *And Yet the Town Moves* and *Heavenly Delusion* served as inspiration for anime adaptations – the former premiered in 2010, while the latter came to theaters in April 2023. While JManga once carried *And Yet the Town Moves*, Crunchyroll later began to publish the manga digitally in English simultaneously before all manga were removed from their service. Manga Planet added the manga to its program in 2020, and Denpa publishes *Heavenly Delusion* in English.

Summary

This could be a fun comedy series. A mix of music and comedy could work, let's see if that's true.
